Scandia Ceria Stabilized Zirconia powder is used as an SOFC electrolyte membrane for improving performance or reducing operating temperature.

Advanced thermal barrier coatings such as Scandia Ceria Stabilized Zirconia have shown a lower thermal conductivity, higher thermal stability and higher CTE compared to the current 7-8YSZ coatings. Scandia fully stabilized zirconia (Sc2O3 10 mol%) has the highest oxygen ionic conductivity among zirconia-based ceramic electrolyte materials. Used as a SOFC electrolyte membrane to enhance performance or reduce operating temperature. It can also be used as a component in high performance composite cathodes or cermet anodes. ScSZ-10 has an ionic conductivity three to four times that of yttria-stabilized zirconia YSZ-8. The mechanical strength of ScSZ-10 is also about twice that of YSZ-8. The properties of this ScSZ-10 powder make it suitable for use in tape casting, ink formulation, pellet pressing, and other ceramic manufacturing processes.
